As someone who enjoys exploring budget-friendly fragrances, I’ve come to appreciate Afnan for producing some great scents at affordable prices. After experiencing the fantastic Turathi Blue, I decided to give another one of their creations, 9pm, a shot. At just €20, I figured it was a low-risk blind buy.
Quick Facts:
Smell:
The first thing I noticed about Afnan’s 9pm is that it’s a very sweet and heavy fragrance, with the dominant notes being vanilla and tonka bean. Although there’s a mix of other notes like apple and a bunch I can’t quite put my finger on, they all blend together in a way that makes it difficult to distinguish individual scents.
In some ways, it reminds me of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Ultra Mâle, but without the playful pear note that makes Ultra Mâle so enjoyable. While Turathi Blue left me impressed, especially considering its price, 9pm just doesn’t quite hit the mark for me. That doesn’t mean 9pm is a bad fragrance at all. Actually, 9pm is a decent fragrance, just Ultra Mâle is the better one. It’s definitely a winter fragrance, as it would be far too heavy for temperatures above 15°C.
Longevity:
One thing I have to give Afnan credit for is the impressive longevity of 9pm. It’s rare to find such a cheap fragrance that performs so well in this regard. There’s no doubt that people will still be able to smell it on you hours after you’ve sprayed it on. And because of its potency, 9pm might be a solid option for those looking to grab attention in the nightlife scene.
