My Full Fragrance Review:
The call of the forest, the allure of the great outdoors – if these sentiments strike a chord with you, then you might find the men’s fragrance, Esencia from Loewe, intriguing. Launched in 1988, this Eau de Toilette is a classic piece of perfumery that tells a story of green landscapes and the raw energy of nature. In 2018, Loewe revisited Esencia, giving it a new lease of life as an Eau de Parfum, but for this review, I’m revisiting the original Eau de Toilette.
Quick Facts:
Smell:
In my opinion, Esencia is a lot like diving headfirst into a verdant dreamscape. It’s as if Loewe u will encounter a powerful blast of Pine and Fir, cradled by the soft undercurrents of Oakmoss. The landscape unfolds further, revealing the aromatic nuances of a myriad of other woods and green notes.
But it doesn’t end there. Juniper berry weaves itself into the mix, accented by the light, zesty touch of citrus, making Esencia more wearable. To give you an image: Imagine being surrounded by a forest of pines and fir in the height of summer, just after a refreshing rain shower. The wet forest becomes a cool haven, alive with the tantalising aroma of trees and damp leaves. That, in a nutshell, is Esencia by Loewe.
There is, however, a clear indication that this scent has been around for quite some time. Esencia carries a somewhat dated fragrance DNA, leaning towards the preferences of mature men in their 60s or 70s. While not necessarily a bad thing, it certainly isn’t your modern, youth-oriented perfume.
Longevity:
Esencia offers a strong aromatic punch right off the bat, but the initial green intensity gradually mellows, evolving into a more tame, wearable scent. The projection and longevity of this Eau de Toilette are average to good, managing a solid 5 to 6 hours on my skin. It starts off robust but eventually settles into a comforting, mid-range presence.
