Asad (Lattafa)

So, I walked into the office this morning wearing the latest addition to my fragrance collection, and my coworker greeted me with, “Peter, this is the best fragrance you’ve been wearing for quite some time!” A compliment I wouldn’t take lightly. The source of this delightful scent was none other than Asad, a remarkable creation by the fragrance house, Lattafa. I found it to be not only an incredible and versatile fragrance but also, surprisingly, quite affordable. Some might say it’s a clone of Dior’s Sauvage Elixir. However, in this review, I’d like to assure you that although there are some Sauvage Elixir vibes at the onset, Asad gradually develops its unique character. That’s a bonus, because let’s face it, who likes a boring clone?

Quick Facts:

  • Scent Profile: citrus, floral, oriental
  • Season: all-seasons
  • Longevity: average
  • Occasion: versatile
  • Price: $

Smell:

One thing about Asad is that it’s sure to catch your attention from the get-go. Bring the atomiser close to your nose, and you’re hit with an initial wave of citrus, followed by an unexpectedly fun cola note. Upon spraying, the same fragrance profile holds. This isn’t a saccharine cola scent, it’s well-balanced and very pleasant. Hence, the praise from my coworker. About 15 minutes in, the fragrance does hint at Dior Sauvage Elixir, but the resemblance is fleeting, lasting for roughly an hour.

Asad then embarks on its own olfactory journey, the cola note evolving and becoming more pronounced with time. In its dry down, the fragrance is reminiscent of Tonka Cola from Mancera. This is a carefully crafted blend, neither too sweet nor too plain. Ideal for the younger gentlemen in their 20s to 40s, Asad is suitable for a broad range of scenarios, be it a day at work, a romantic date, or a night out with friends. Plus, it’s a season-friendly fragrance, great for just about any time of the year.

Longevity:

Onto the longevity of this fragrance. Asad has a decent staying power on my skin, averaging around 5-6 hours before the need to reapply. It may not be the longest-lasting fragrance out there, but it certainly isn’t a disappointment. My go-to is usually 7 sprays, which provides a nice projection. For a night out, I’d probably amp it up a bit.

Final Thoughts:

In this review, I can confidently state that Lattafa is gradually climbing my list of favourite fragrance houses. Their exceptional value-for-money offerings, coupled with bottle designs and packaging that outshine even some premium niche fragrances, have left quite the impression. Asad is a notable example of this – a delightful yet inexpensive fragrance that can rival many higher-end alternatives. It’s a great all-rounder: an everyday fragrance suitable for all seasons and occasions, with an enjoyable touch of fun. Simply put, Asad is a top contender in the realm of affordable men’s fragrances.
